The sprawling city of Phoenix is known for its array of southwestern skylines, outdoor excursions, Native American histories, and a whole lot of dry heat — there are normally 75–100 days per year that this city clocks in over 100°. So, dress cool, grab a personal fan, and get exploring on everything Phoenix has to offer.

Natural Attractions.

Papago Park, located at the center of the city, is filled with some of nature’s most unique landscapes. In between green golf courses are vast deserts covered with saguaro cacti, jutting mountains, and mesmerizing lakes. Not to mention its amazing history. This natural masterpiece was once a reservation for indigenous tribes, a fish hatchery during the Great Depression, a POW camp during World War II, and a VA hospital. Be sure to head over to the northeastern side of the park to check out the Desert Botanical Garden while you’re there. Fall in love with vibrant wildflowers that pop against the desert red rocks as you stroll through different pathways.

Museums.

Phoenix is known for its renowned museums. From southwestern studies to contemporary art, there’s a storyline for everyone. Among the crowd favorites include the Heard Museum. Built in 1929, this world-class museum showcases different artifacts that represent homes for various indigenous communities of the Southwest. Explore their unique traditions and various household objects like pottery, cooking utensils, and clothing. Heard tells the stories of American Indian people from the first person, creating a dynamic, powerful exhibit to showcase their perspectives and traditions. Restaurants.

The food scene in this city is sprawling, thanks to its sheer size alone. With so many cultures swirling in this enormous city, every cuisine under the hot Phoenix sun is ready for the tasting. Once a city known for white tablecloths and bolstering its James Beard winners, the pandemic has created a more accessible dining experience, with quick bites, pop-ups, and takeout joints dominating the scene.
