Wellness Wednesday | Retreats

Each week we’re sharing top tips from our team on how to get the most out of your wellness routine. This week: We’re talking about retreats. When our lives feel like they’re on fast forward, retreats help us to escape, reflect, and slow down.

Whether you want to heal the mind, body, or soul, retreats (of all kinds) can offer long-term benefits, help to build new habits, and get you back to the present with a fresh and positive perspective.

To retreat, by definition, means to move back or withdraw from — whether your retreat is digital, spiritual or health-oriented, retreats are all about pulling back to reset before entering our lives in order to gain a fresh perspective.

Digital.

Tech is always at our fingertips. And while there are a lot of benefits to that — including a stream of new information and the ability to have a closer connection to far away friends and family — the constant stimulation of buzzes and beeps prevents us from being truly in the present. Whichever way you look at it, smartphones are a major distraction. We’re aimlessly scrolling during a movie, texting at a dinner, we’re never 100% tuned in to what’s going on. A digital detox retreat pries us away from our precious phones to unplug from the constant noise of social media, entertainment, emails, etc. Taking a break can help you sleep better, feel calmer, and reconnect with things you love sans screen.

Spiritual

Whatever level of spirituality resonates with you, there’s something reassuring about believing in something bigger than ourselves and our brief existence on this planet. Carving out a few days to find quiet and solitude with the universe can lead to spiritual refreshing and renewing. Whether you find an organized spiritual retreat with like-minded individuals, or you want a simple, solo spiritual retreat, it’s important to wholeheartedly commit to it. Spend time outside, revel in nature and the wonder of it all.

Health and Wellness.

When we take care of our bodies, our minds follow suit. These retreats normally need professional coaching in order to guide us away from those bad habits and put healthier ones in place. Health and Wellness retreats normally focus on healing through nature, finding enjoyable ways to exercise and indulging in guilt-free food. The primary goal of these retreats is to stimulate motivation and inspiration to do these things at home and therefore live a healthier, happier life. Studies even show that just one week at one of these retreats can improve psychological and physical health.
